Uploading: Lyceum

The problem with large files

A course video easily runs to several hundred megabytes. Transferred in one go it hits every time and size limit standing between your machine and the server, and fails at the end, not the beginning.

In pieces instead of in one

So Lyceum splits the file into chunks and transfers them one at a time. Each chunk is small enough to stay under every limit; the server reassembles them at the end.

When something breaks off

If the connection drops, it is not the whole transfer that is lost but the current chunk. Started transfers that never complete are cleaned up after a while, otherwise the disk fills with fragments.

The limit is known upfront

What your server accepts at most is read and shown before the upload. A file that is too large is flagged beforehand, not after twenty minutes of waiting.
