Configuration: Lyceum
Updated
The settings that come first, and why they live in the database rather than a file.
Settings without server access
Sender and transport for email, the Stripe keys, the legal texts: you maintain all of it in the backoffice, not in a file on the server. The reason is practical: changing an address should need neither a developer nor a restart.
Secrets stay secret
Keys and passwords are stored encrypted. Anyone reading the database does not read a Stripe secret. After a change the new setting also takes effect in the background worker, because it fetches the configuration fresh before every job. Otherwise a changed sender would only apply after a restart.
Where to start
Brand and site address · sender and transport for email · Stripe in test mode first · the legal texts. Only then is the first course worth building, because otherwise every test purchase snags on a missing entry.
