Update 1.43: Phone media, image crops and tidying up, Mesa
Updated
Phone videos play in every browser, an image gets its own crop per device, and tidying up never removes what is still in use.
New:
Photos from an iPhone:
Image fields now only accept files they can display and say at the field what does not fit. An iPhone photo uploaded from Safari becomes a JPEG, without metadata or location.
Videos everyone can play:
By default, phones record in a format that Firefox and many Chrome installations cannot play. The upload now converts such videos into a format that plays everywhere and removes the location data along the way.
One crop per device:
An image field can carry an aspect ratio each for phone, tablet and desktop, fitted or cropped. The editor shows the chosen image in these frames side by side.
Searching across all folders:
The media library finds a file in any folder, and each hit names its folder. You manage folders where you see them, and each has its own address for back, forward and sharing.
Tidying up without loss:
Deleted media disappear for good once the trash retention period ends. A file an entry still uses is kept, even if that entry is in the trash; the check looks into the content of every entry to be sure.
Choose how long things are kept:
As Super Admin you set under Settings › General how long old versions and delivery logs are kept: off, 30, 90, 180 or 365 days. Before saving, Mesa tells you how many the nightly clean-up would remove.
