Your courses. Your buyers. Your margin.

One-time licence. No share of your revenue.

Lyceum is your own course platform: build courses from chapters and lessons, sell directly via Stripe, track progress and issue certificates — on your server, with no revenue share and no monthly rent.

Features

Building courses

Process

From zero to sellable in 3 steps.

We install Lyceum on your server and set up payment, sender and legal texts with you. After that the first course is a question of your content, not of technology.

01Install

Lyceum goes onto your server: core, backoffice and public site under your addresses, plus the two long-running helpers for video processing and scheduling.

02Set up

Payment in test mode, sender for email, legal texts including the withdrawal notice for digital content. One complete test purchase before Stripe goes live.

03Sell

Create the course, release one lesson as a preview, set two offers — time-limited and lifetime. From here you work on content, not on the platform.

Anyone who has sold a course through a portal knows this.

A share leaves with every sale — and the better the course runs, the more it costs.

The buyers belong to the portal. You do not even know their addresses.

Your course sits next to your competitors', ordered by somebody else's algorithm.

What happens to your content when the portal changes its rules is not your call.

Deep Dive

One gate to the video, not a net of rules

001

One gate to the video, not a net of rules

One gate to the video, not a net of rules
A course platform's entire paywall hangs on one question: does a video file ever sit at an address reachable without a check?
  • Exactly one path leads to a video — it checks the entitlement and hands the file through internally.
  • No exception, not even for preview lessons: they go through the same gate and merely answer the check differently.
  • All identifiers are random rather than sequential — there is no address to count up.

002

Time-limited sells lifetime

Time-limited sells lifetime
Every course can be offered with time-limited and with lifetime access. The cheaper entry is not the competitor of the dearer one but its yardstick.
  • A single price has no yardstick. Put a second beside it and the first becomes readable.
  • When time-limited access expires the course stays visible and the path to extend sits where the user currently is.
  • A reminder goes out before expiry — so nobody hits a wall mid-lesson.

003

Large videos without the site stalling

Large videos without the site stalling
A course video easily runs to several hundred megabytes. Both getting it in and processing it are built so that nobody is blocked.
  • The file is transferred in chunks — each small enough to stay under every time and size limit.
  • Processing runs as a background job, never inside a page request. Meanwhile you create the next lesson.
  • Poster image and duration are produced along the way — the duration feeds straight into the course length.

Overview

A course platform that belongs to you.

Everything an operator with several courses needs — and deliberately none of what a marketplace platform turns it into.

01

Chapters and lessons

Three levels, no more. Text, video or both per lesson.

02

Free preview lesson

One lesson plays without purchase and without an account — the strongest lever in the catalogue.

03

Two access tiers

Time-limited and lifetime per course, including expiry, reminder and extension.

04

Certificates

A certificate on completion, publicly verifiable, with a number that reveals nothing about your business.

05

Protected videos

One entitlement check before every delivery. A forwarded link is worthless.

06

Owners and authors

Authors maintain their courses and see neither orders nor accounts — enforced on the server.

07

Orders with memory

After a partial refund both amounts are shown: purchased and remaining.

08

Settings without the server

Sender, payment credentials and legal texts are maintained in the backoffice — stored encrypted.

Comparison

Lyceum compared to marketplace and rented platform

The three models differ less in features than in who ends up owning the buyers, the margin and the address.

Share of your revenue

LyceumNone — only the payment provider's fee
LyceumA share per sale, often depending on who brought the buyer
MarketplaceMonthly rent plus transaction fee

Who owns the buyers

LyceumYou — the data sits in your database
LyceumThe marketplace; you usually see only aggregate figures
MarketplaceYou, as long as you keep paying

Where your course sits

LyceumAt your address, in your design
LyceumNext to your competitors', ordered by someone else's algorithm
MarketplaceOn a subdomain of the provider or your own

Pricing control

LyceumFree, including time-limited and lifetime per course
LyceumWithin the marketplace's rules and discount campaigns
MarketplaceFree, within the booked plan

If you stop paying

LyceumNothing happens — the licence is one-time
LyceumNot applicable, there is no rent — but the share keeps running
MarketplaceThe platform stops

Visibility in search engines

LyceumCourse pages are not indexable in this version — see the limits in the docs
LyceumHigh, but the visibility belongs to the marketplace
MarketplaceDepends on the provider
